Rites of Passage – William Golding

Lord of the Flies has never been my favourite book (which may have a lot to do with having read it at school as a set text…) but Rites of Passage, thank heavens, is a very different proposition. Taking the form of a journal, an ambitious young man, in the process of receiving a significant boost up the diplomatic ladder, is writing for the edification of the titled godfather instrumental in his sudden advancement.
